How a business gets listed

Every listing is checked by a person at ConnectIDD against the business's own website or news coverage. Here is the bar.

Friends walk and roll past storefronts on a downtown street.

Every listing needs all four

  1. 1
Open and active. A dated sign within the last two years, such as current hours, a recent post, or news coverage.
  2. 2
Pays at least minimum wage. Not on the U.S. Department of Labor list of employers holding a Section 14(c) certificate, which allows paying people with disabilities less than minimum wage. We check the business's name and the nonprofit behind it. The current check uses the list dated September 1, 2026.
  3. 3
Sells to the public, for Inclusive Social Enterprises and Disability-Owned Businesses: a storefront, cafe, food truck, online shop, or service business. AbilityOne contractors are the one exception, and carry their own label.
  4. 4
Public proof. The business says it employs or trains people with disabilities, or the owner says publicly that they have a disability. We never guess.

Not listed

Day programs with no public business, sheltered workshops, staffing agencies with no business of their own, and job boards.

National Inclusive Employers

A large employer is listed only when it runs a named, active program to hire or train people with disabilities, with its own public page or coverage in the last two years. Examples are an autism or neurodiversity hiring program, a Project SEARCH internship site, or a dedicated hiring partnership for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A general equal opportunity statement, a disability employee group, sponsorship of a nonprofit, or an index score is not enough on its own.

In a state search, these employers show after the state's own businesses when their program runs in that state.

What the status labels mean

Shops online

A state search shows the businesses in that state. Businesses in other states that sell online and ship stay out of it unless you tick “Also show businesses in other states that sell online” under the search box.

Where the dots go

On the map, each dot is a ZIP code with one or more businesses. Businesses with no street address, and businesses that only sell online, are in the list but not on the map.

Order of results

Self Verified first, then Confirmed, then Listed, then A to Z. With Near me, closest first. No one pays to change who is listed or in what order.
